What is the secret of the lush and beautiful geranium? Simply water them with this ingredient

Pelargonium, also called balcony or florist geranium, is a flowering plant, native to South Africa. This perennial herb offers a colorful flower that adorns balconies and windowsills. Some species of pelargoniums are even characterized by their fragrant foliage. To have lush and vigorous pelargoniums, it is important to take care of them. To do this, discover this ingredient that you can add to the geranium pot to obtain beautiful flowers.

Florists’ geraniums are perennial flowering plants, prized for their decorative appearance. These herbaceous plants can be grown in the open field, or in pots or planters. To obtain lush and vigorous flowers, only one ingredient is enough.

What ingredient to add to the geranium pot to get lush flowers?

Sugar
  • Sugar to obtain lush geraniums

Sugar is an effective natural ingredient to  invigorate plants and revive them , especially when they begin to lose their color in winter. In fact, the lack of light during this cold season of the year  can lead to yellowing of plant foliage. To avoid this, simply spread a teaspoon of powdered sugar on the floor. You can also mix sugar and ground coffee,  which is a good fertilizer for plants . This mixture will give the plants a boost and stimulate their root growth. Then water the soil  to incorporate the mixture. If this trick is effective, it is because  plants need glucose to feed themselves, but also  to promote the development of their root system.  To provide your plants with additional nutrients, you can mix sugar with other natural products, such as white vinegar or yeast,  to fertilize your plants,  especially those in the garden.

Sugar is also effective in protecting plants from nematodes. The latter are microscopic parasitic worms. While some nematodes are beneficial for garden or orchard cultivation,  others are more harmful to plants. Also, if your plants are infested with nematodes, you can mix half a cup of sugar with 5 liters of water. Then ulcerate the solution at the foot of the plants.

Please note that sugar should be used in moderation. Although it is beneficial for plants, it also feeds bacteria. An overdose could accelerate its development and lead to rotting of your plants.

Pelargonios

Due to the nutrients it provides, sugar can be used in growing geraniums,  as long as it is not abused.  Using once a month is enough. Any excess can have a counterproductive effect. Your geraniums may stop growing and rot.  To fertilize your plants with sugar, you can proceed in two different ways. The first method is to sprinkle a teaspoon of sugar directly on the soil of the geraniums. The second method is to dilute a tablespoon of sugar in two cups of water. You will get a liquid fertilizer that will be used  both to water your pelargoniums and to fertilize them.

Geraniums from florists

Please note that to obtain vigorous and lush pelargoniums, it is also important  to know their growing conditions,  to take good care of these flowering plants. This perennial plant appreciates exposure to partial shade or sun. Choose a special geranium potting soil for your cultivation  and water it as soon as the soil dries on the surface. Water the flowers preferably in the morning. In winter, water your plants only if they are very dry. Furthermore, pelargonium is not hardy and therefore does not tolerate cold and frost . Also, don’t hesitate to regularly prune faded flowers and yellowing foliage.

That said, thanks to sugar, you will be able to feed your geraniums and fertilize them, as long as you use this ingredient in moderation.
