The wonderful properties of purslane, how to collect it and where to find it

Purslane is a plant that grows throughout most of Italy and offers dozens of  health  benefits. It is known by various names including porcelain and porcacchia, its scientific name is  Portulaca oleracea  .

This excellent medicinal herb was used by our ancestors to prevent and treat numerous health conditions such as nausea and fever. Below we list the main properties  of purslane

Diuretic

Consuming purslane promotes urine output and overall kidney function. Thanks to this property we can remove residues and harmful elements from the body.

How to recognize and use purslane

Purslane is a spontaneous plant and as such you need to know how to recognize it  Purslane looks like a creeping plant with smooth, fleshy leaves and reddish stems.

This plant can be eaten raw, alone or in salads. It is advisable to choose the youngest branches as they are more tender and tastier. The stem should be avoided: although it is edible, it is too hard and has a less pleasant taste.
