Strawberries are popular as home garden plants because they produce fruit very quickly and require very little space. They grow in containers as well as in the ground.
How to plant strawberries in pots
Here’s what you’ll need
- A pot or tray for planting strawberries (with drainage holes)
- topsoil
- Strawberry plants
Instructions
- Purchase organic strawberry plants from a nursery or plant nursery
- The seedlings should be left in water for about 1 hour before planting
- Choose a pot with drainage holes
- Fill half or 2/3 full with potting soil, plant your strawberries and continue filling with soil around the plants.
- Fill to about 5cm from the edge of the pot.
- When planting your strawberries, make sure the roots point straight into the soil and that the soil reaches up to the collar of the plant (where the growth begins)
- Then water your plants
- Place the pot in a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight per day.
When watering strawberries, remember not to overwater. She checks in daily to monitor their progress. Dip a finger into the soil to make sure it is moist to 1 to 2 inches deep.
Tips for Monitoring the Growth of Your Strawberries
- In spring, strawberries are usually the first fruit to ripen
- Place your strawberry planters in a sunny spot and rotate them 180 degrees twice a week to keep the plants exposed to the sun evenly. Check that the soil is moist, not wet.
- If possible, water in the morning or during the day, but not in the evening, to avoid disease.
- You can pick your strawberries as soon as they are ripe!
